DEFIBRILATOR TRAINING

Details
Parent Category: News

The first defibrilator training, a preliminary session with the manufacturers of the machine, took place {jcomments on}on Thursday, 4th March 2010.

The next session, which will last 6 hours will take place after Easter and will include CPR training.

On Thursday, the village doctor, the Cypriot and non-Cypriot trainees, and a lot of observers, turned up for the initial session.  Many conversations were in Greek, as was the training module the trainer bought along, however communication was good and will be better for the actual session. The Muhktar looked on throughout the session, and it possibly made him realise the huge return there could be on a small amount of expenditure.

The Council Executive Secretary was interested in the fact that the PRA had 3 people in reserve who may also be invited to the full training session.   He has plans for the methodology for calling volunteers in an emergency and will be outlining these once the training is all in hand.

A huge amount of work has been put in by the PRA Health & Welfare Group to drive this project forward, together with support from the Muhktar and Pissouri Community Council.

(Extracts from message from Kay Boyd-Platt following the first session)

Many thanks from the PRA Committee for all the hard work done by the Health & Welfare Group.

It is much appreciated, and we are pleased to see the project coming to fruition.

FEMALE HEART ATTACKS

FEMALE HEART ATTACKS

Women rarely have the same dramatic symptoms that men have when experiencing a heart attack (Myocardial Infarction) - you know, the sudden stabbing pain in the chest, the cold sweat, grabbing the chest and dropping to the floor (as seen in movies!!).

Please read the story of one woman's experience with a heart attack (at end of this article) then note the following:

1. Be aware that something very different is happening in your body not the usual men's symptoms but inexplicale things happening.   It is said that many more women than men die of their first (and last) MI because they did not know they were having one and commonly mistake it as indigestion, take some anti-heartburn preparation and go to bed, hoping they'll feel better in the morning when they wake up ---- which doesn't happen.    So, call the paramedics if ANYTHING is unpleasantly happening that you've not felt before.   It is better to have a 'false alarm' visitation that to risk your life guessing what it might be!

2.  Note 'Call the Paramedics' and, if you can, take an aspirin.   TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!   Do not try to drive yourself or have your panicky husband drive (you will both be a hazard to others on the road.

3. Do NOT call the doctor, he won't have the equipment needed, principally OXYGEN.  He will be notified later.

4.  Don't assume it could not be a heart attack i.e you have a normal cholesterol count etc.  MIs are usually caused by long-term stress and inflammation in the body.   Be careful and be aware, the more you know the better the chance of survival.
